Miombo forest dominates the central and southern parts of the country. Tanzania has numerous mountains, including Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Mt. Meru in the North and the Pare, Usambara and Udzungwa range of mountains along the eastern seaboard. Many smaller volcanoes are located throughout the Rift Valley, which runs through the center of the country, and across central Masailand. This diversity creates an ideal habitat for the varied game populations that have made Tanzania one of the finest hunting countries in Africa. Tanzania has an excellent reputation for its exceptional hunting and trophy quality. Lion, leopard, buffalo, sable antelope, roan antelope, eland, sitatunga, greater kudu, hippo and crocodile form the basis of most hunts. More select species such as gerenuk, oryx, lesser kudu, Grants and Thompson's gazelle, East African impala and Roberts gazelle offer a variety of species not common elsewhere. Collectors will enjoy seeking species such as red duiker, suni and mountain reedbuck in Monduli and Mt. Meru in the North or the Roosevelt's Sable that occurs along the coast and the Selous Game Reserve. Many other species are widespread. A complete listing of species can be found: here. |
